Author's Life |
He got the idea of the Scorch and the Flare from the environment he lived in Georgia when he was young. Which was hot and there was a lot of sunlight. He also included some of his personal experiences in his books (gradesaver.com) like meeting Cranks. Just Kidding, I don't really know, he doesn't talk about it much. However, he got his inspiration to write the Maze Runner Series from the books, Ender's Game and The Lord Of The Flies (seventeen.com). Movies like Star Wars, Lord of The Rings, and also his favorite T.V. show Lost, inspired him when he was writing his books (denofgeek.com). That is pretty much why he started writing the series, which is quite simple in a way. Fun Fact, he also likes music like Led Zeppelin, Staind, Coldplay, and such. Those are all rock bands, and I find it very interesting that he listens to that kind of music.

Comparison |
He does not really see a character as himself, but he wants to be like the character that he wrote. For example, here's what he said in a Q&A session (seventeen.com). The question was: "Who is the character that you relate to the most?" His answer: "That's definitely Thomas. You can't help but pour your heart and soul into the main character, and he basically becomes you. At least in how he thinks and sees the world. But he also does things, brave things, that I can only hope I would do". He said that he wanted to be as brave as Thomas. This shows how he sees the character that he wrote as someone that he wants to become or you could say his role model. He kinda made Thomas as a character that everyone can relate to by how he (Thomas) sees the world.
